Background

Andrew Bearnot has an unusual background, having simultaneously completed a ScB in Materials Engineering at Brown University and a BFA in Glass at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). His work with the glass-breaking ritual draws on his unique technical, artistic, and ethnic experience.

The Project

In 2012 Andrew returned from two years as a Fulbright/ASF (American-Scandinavian Foundation) fellow, researching glass craft and technology in Sweden and Denmark. In preparation for his brother’s wedding, he radically re-imagined the glass-breaking ritual that traditionally concludes the Jewish wedding ceremony. Inspired by an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response, Andrew decided to offer this distinctive experience to a wider audience. He is committed to expanding the field of contemporary ritual.
